Hallway Update
Now there are two women in camp chairs. And when the big bear guy came back from taking his dog out about ten minutes ago, he stayed out there chatting with them. Now they are throwing something down the hall for the dog to fetch.
I can hear all of this from inside my apartment, yes. It’s fine now, but if this is still going on when I want to go to bed …

One of my neighbors is sitting in the hall again
This time she’s in a camp chair. It appears to be an attempt to socialize with neighbors, which is admirable. But when I get home from work, sweaty and in gym clothes, lugging my bag of office clothes and my other bag, I don’t feel very social. La.

The rest of the work conference went fine, and then the big boss took us to lunch on Friday at Matchbox in appreciation. We ate all of the things: enormous salads, sliders with shoestring potatoes, and three pizzas.

Conference at work
Worked 11 hours today. Got hit on by one of our members. Operated the world’s lowest-tech social network at the registration desk by leaving Post-It notes with messages tucked into the name tags of attendees left by other attendees wondering where they were.

Today's earthquake
Yes, I felt the earthquake. I was in an alley with two of my co-workers, standing right behind one of their cars. We were waiting for someone from the hotel where we’re holding a conference to bring a cart to roll our projectors, print-outs, posters, etc. inside. Mild summer
On the way back from Safeway just now, I rolled down the windows and cranked up Peaches and drove too fast. It felt very much like the evenings of going back to Duke, which would indeed have been happening in mid-August. That buzz of anticipation over how much life there is to come.

I love Sunday
Despite waking up far too early and being unable to fall asleep again, it’s been a fantastic day so far. I shopped, did errands and organized the apartment a bit. Then Brian and I met Brett at Stoney’s for a few drinks and watched her eat grilled cheese with a pile of black pepper. Now we’re off to meet Pat for a few more drinks before I go to Jason’s birthday dinner.

Sadness
The Giant in my neighborhood is closing after Labor Day: http://is.gd/gIPuEP. The site will become another huge apartment complex w/garage parking and ground-floor retail, including a new Giant. Of course, this is 2+ years away so … basically no more Giant within walking distance.
We still have the awesome bodega and the Whole Foods, though. And OJ can get me to other huge supermarkets.

My Monday evening
Just finished Season 2 of United States of Tara*. Sooo amazing. I cried. Then I went to CVS and bought Double Stuf Oreos.
*It’s only taken me about 15 months to get this far, so it’s kind of like watching it in real time.
